So here’s a question. I’ve known about gophers living around where my coop was for awhile. I’ve seen the little muffin logs scamper near there since we’ve moved here a year and a half ago. As I’ve said in other posts my flock near my house was decimated by predators reducing it from 19 birds to 9. We’d notice flies and such coming from the gopher burrows in the coop (yes they had a hole in the coop we didn’t know about) and around it, and my parents were sure they snagged all my birds. I didn’t think gophers would actively hunt chickens. I do know some rodents are territorial. We rescued two abandoned mocking bird chicks that’s fallen out of their nest and put the little fluffs in my guinea pig cage. My guinea pig was raised by me from a very young age and actually got her from my aunt who Bred them at the time. Anyways I came home one day from school and found nothing but feathers. My poor six yo self was very distraught. So is it possible that this family of gophers (I’ve spotted normal brown ones and one with melanism yesterday so I assume there’s a family) is responsible for some of my birds disappearing?

I see you are a fairly new member. Hopefully someone with gophers will know. This would be a new one on me. We have gophers here but they are pocket gophers and live underground. It may be something else. If you have a game camera you may want to put it up. Usually once a predator has made a kill it will be back. Good luck...
