Hi, my little maverick is a week old tomorrow and I was wondering as this is my first time with geese if there was anything to look out for illness wise? At the moment he’s eating and drinking well and definitely pooping well! But sometimes I just worry lol, sometimes he will sit down to eat and drink and nibble his toys and sometimes he shakes his head (like a wet dog) and some I hear a puff of air out of his nose? so if anyone knows of things to watch out for that’s not normal behaviour then please let me know, thank you

He/she’s a healthy happy baby❤️

Some things to watch out for is if they start repeatedly coughing/sneezing, if they’re gaping (breathing/painting with their mouth open) if they start flinging spit everywhere repeatedly, if the seem listless or more subdued and silent, if they hardy move or stop eating, if you notice limping, or they have trouble balancing, those are signs somethings wrong.

Other than that the occasional sneeze or flinging of food and water is completly normal.

He will sometimes sneeze and shake his head very quickly after food or drink but I’ve only seen him do this twice in the last week hopefully this good behaviour stays as he gets older lol

Maverick is gorgeous congratulations I would love to answer your question but I’ve got a few days to go before mine hatch if mine he or she does the same I will let you know
Are you giving Brewers yeast ? And duckling and goose crumbs
Also grit
And salad? You probably are 😊x

My 2-year-old geese still nibble their "toys," and anything else they want to explore. That's a pretty typical goose thing. An occasional head shake isn't anything to worry about either. And, if you think your little darling is pooping now, just you wait for him to grow up! His production will amaze you :)

Congrats on your baby. Maverick is adorable!

My 3 day old gosling is currently repeatedly coughing/ sneezing and gaping, I can't figure out why, what should I do?

The best thing would be to get them checked out by a vet, the best we can do here is advise and make educated guesses but ultimately we don’t really know what is wrong and the course of action that needs to be taken because there are so many variables.

But if you can answer some questions it might help to be able to figure out what’s wrong and what to do about it. Also making a separate post here in geese or in emergencies might also get the rest of the rest of the communities help.

How long has the symptoms been occurring?
What feed are they being fed?
What kind of bedding are they on?
Could they be getting too hot or to cold?
