I have a new gosling that I got on Sunday past. It is 3-4 weeks old. Born in June. Tail feathers in, wings half feathered.
It seems healthy in every way, eats well, grazes, active, gets in and out of the wading pools etc., but when I put her up in the barn at night she makes a little noise when she /he breathes. Not the clicking noise that I have read about but almost like a little snoring noise. I can't decide if it's a little tired vocalization or something I should be concerned about.
Does anyone have any ideas or experience with this. It seems to get quieter and then stop when she settles down, but it also seems I notice her breathing more than the two adults also but is that because she's smaller.
Any help appreciated,
Thank you.

Hi Franki. I see a few folks have looked at this thread, but maybe they have no more idea than I do.
Goslings do make lots of little noises, and the fact that she seems perfectly healthy otherwise is a good thing. Has she always made this noise, or is it just recently? Just keep an eye on her, and if she shows any fruther symptoms, get back on here and let us know. It´d more to go on. There may be nothing wrong or it could be a little thing that she´ll overcome. So, just checking..she has grit to eat? Apple Cider vinegar in her water, niacin in her diet? is able to wash her nares in water? No sign of worms?

Thank you for replying.
She has plenty of fresh water to dunk her little head into.
I have not put apple cider in her water but will. She has fine grit.
Yes I every respect seems ok except for that little noise and I can see her breathing which I don't see the bigger ones doing. I'm wondering if it's because she is so small and doesn't have feathers.
I haven't had a baby in 20 years.
She eats Mazuri floating in water, she also has a bowl of crumbles in water along with a bowl of water and a separate bowl of crumbles. She eats tiny pieces of chopped romaine floated in her bowl.
She was playing today and bathing in the wading pool and grazing just that little noise at night worries me.
I lost my 19 year old male in December then took in a rescue that I took to the vet and it didn't make it, I just don't want anything to be wrong and I'm not aware.

I just took the geese some lettuce.
They baby chomped down hers, and ate quite a few pellets of the Mazuri floating in her water bowl then settled down.
I sat and watched for a while.
It seems the noise is only when it's laying down and on the exhale.
May call vet in the morning.

Lovely little thing. Make sure you add the ACV in water that´s in a plastic bowl, not metal. ACV is just a good all-round natural antiseptic, and helps guard against little problems.
Goslings do seem to labour their breathing a little more than the adults, but if you suspect that it´s any type of infection, you can get some antibiotics for her. Baytril can be given to geese, the weak strength one. And there´s another one beginning with T, but can´t exactly remember the name. However, as she´s so good otherwise, she may simply have some strange little abnormality about her.
For instance, I bought a chicken, and the next day she went down, so I thought, with chicken cold or flu...snorting, sneezing... I gave her medication for it. It seemed to go away. But it comes back every now and again. None of my other birds get anything from her, and I´ve had her 3 years now. It seems to be an abnormality about her. Her youngsters never develop it, either. If it´s quiet, i can hear her snoring. I think she´s like the pug dog!

She seems fine this morning.
I have called the vet and she has an appointment with him on Tuesday so we shall see..
Thank you,
Linda
