It was such a lovely day that we took the goslings out to enjoy fresh air & grass.

Yes we do eat the birds that are extra or not suited to breeding. Last fall we put twenty birds in the freezer or canned the meat. We recently sold fourteen adults to folks who wanted their own geese. That helps some with the feed bill.

In the spring, summer and early fall they eat grass almost exclusively. This makes then less expensive to maintain than you might imagine and also is an economical way to provide an alternate meat source. The only eggs we eat are those that are damaged some how or laid when its so cold they've frozen. I quite enjoy the geese just as they are. They are nothing like ducks or chickens in personality or social organization.
