i had one chick hatch last night and three more hatch today. three are good and healthy but one, not so much. there is blood everywhere in my incubator from him hatching. there is something hanging from the vent too and he is still attached to the egg. he's breathing and chiprs at me if i whistle at him but he just lays there, not moving. is he just a little early and needs a little time or does he have other issues? should i leave him alone for awhile? i had to take the other three out because they were walking all over him. i would have preferred to leave them in the incubator until tomorrow, but i didn't have a choice. they are in a brooder under a heat lamp, so i'm hoping they'll be ok.

I am sorry

That really stinks! I had a similar experience with my first hatch a few weeks ago. The first chick that pipped took forever to get out of the shell, and then just flopped onto the bottom of the incubator. I left him in there for as long as I could, and after I moved him under the heat lamp, he only lived for a few hours. I only had 2 out of 9 hatch, and one died over night. It was real disappointing, especially for a first timer. I'm sorry that your chick died.

it was pretty sad just watching him in there. on the plus side, nature took control so i didn't have to. i don't any problems taking a grown one for the dinner table, but not a baby.
