Got a runt and wondering how bad her growth?

Hi,

Not sure if im posting in correct category but had a question about my runt bantam chick. So my bantam is 8 weeks old and looks so much smaller vs her sibilings how bad is her growth stunt? She can get cold at times and go under a sibiling for warmth. We love her so much hoping she can get stronger and develop her feathers. Forgot to add, she eats and drinks water. This morning i put her out and she just sat there sleepy. Bought her inside to warm up. She was ok again. Gave her water with honey and a few drops of egg yolk.

Most people cull who believe RUNT is a disease . I raised a RUNT chick .
Runt syndrome slower the growth but it doesn't meant that chick won't grow it take usually longer time then other normal' chicks I call runts Special chicken


Runt need diet 2x Protien & 2x multi-vitamins without iron alot of love and there's no issue then. .

I personally used boiled eggs for 3 months as breakfast & supplemental Multi-vitamins and amino acids it helps the growths like Weed

My runt died last night we are so sad. I keep thinking what i did wrong. I will def listen to my gut about bringing it in i think 2 cold.

I am so sorry for your loss-it was nothing you did wrong. It is crazy how small she was at 8 weeks!!

You didn’t do anything wrong - obviously it had other problems and that’s why its growth was stunted. You did the best you could and made its life more comfortable.

Thank you. I thought that's the way bantams look at 8 weeks. I was concerened since she didnt look like others at 6 weeks. She just did not grow. Dunno why. Really thought maybe that was her breed. She ate and drank. She even ate watermelon yesterday we will learn from this experiece

Was she your only bantam? A good way to tell if a chick is growing as it should is to compare it to others of the same breed. If it was your only bantam, it would have been harder to notice that it wasn’t growing as fast as it should. Some chicks just fail to thrive and there’s nothing we can do about it, no matter how hard we try.
