So after yesterdays huge mistake that cost me the life of my first chick I am happy to report that I have 2 live healthy babies and 3 more peeping through there shells!
Oh congrats!!! I went and found your other thread and read thru it. As everyone there said, we have all been there! Anyone who hasn't had a mistake like that yet is either lying, lucky, or very very new to poultry. it sucks so hard when the little ones don't make it, but it is jouful and wonderful when they do.
I'm in a sad mood today, too. We lost one of our turkey poults last night. Shipped birds and turkeys are very delicate at first. My aunt and most trusted farming mentor thinks the chick was a "starve out" chick. We tried all we could: sugar water, extra heat, showing him food and water over and over and over, but in the end he just wasn't meant to survive. the 2nd turkey poult is doing very well, and is in the brooder with 40 baby chickens for company.
