set the trap last night and caught the little bugger. He or one of his buddies has been trying to get into our coop for 2 weeks now. I have been setting my clock during the night to get up and see if I could kill them, to no avail. They would always either already be gone or get gone before I got the little red dot on his butt. A friend loaned me the trap and we set it last night with marshmallows, it worked. He said to use marshmallows or honeybuns to catch coons, and cat food to catch possums. don't know how the cat food works for possums but the marshmallows work pretty good for coons. now just have to dispatch this catch, dispose of the little dead and I mean dead body and reset the trap and catch his friends.

Yours looks a little small, I caught a big male, think he weight bout 30 pounds or so. he's in coonie heaven now.

I used tuna in my new duke trap and have got 2 in 3 nights;) last night was a 33 pound female that ripped a REALLY big stake out of the ground. reset and go

He's so small. The ones around here are HUGE (seriously, about the size of a mid-sized dog). I found one in a tree in my front yard recently (or I should say my dog found it) and it nearly gave me a heart attack.

caught another last night. Just got up a while ago and looked out the window and there was another coon in the trap. must say this one is not as big. I must have been a trapper in my other life, I'm batting 1000. 2 nights 2 coons. y'all have a happy chicky day. ours is getting better with each coon in the trap.

God job on the coon! I haven't ever live trapped them before but the ones I see here look like they swallowed bowling balls! The biggest one I shot to date was 26 pounds and he was standing on top of the chicken coop. They're nasty little creatures.

update: got another. wife looked out and saw another in the trap. we have set the trap 4 nights and caught 3 coons. we started Wednesday and caught one that night, then Thursday caught another. We didn't set the trap Friday or Saturday. Reset it Sunday and it rained all night and didn't catch anything. Last night we caught another. Going to dispatch and burry him later. Knew we had a problem with coons, just not this bad. possums are bad but coons are worse.
Don't think they can get in the coop, once its shut up at night, but I am going to recheck everything. y'all have a happy chicky day.

I'm in San Antonio area, and a coon got into my hen house and killed 4 chickens last week. I went right out and bought a trap, using my dads adviced used one of the dead chickens in the trap. That didn't work. Coon got at it from outside the trap. The next evening I set it with a can of catfood UNDER the trap (kind of buried the can and set the trap on top) and I tossed some marshmallows in there. GOT HER! She was pretty small... I've seen some huge ones around here. Now I"m seeing raccoon roadkill all in the area, and I cheer every time a see one. WE don't release them. We kill them. They will just come back or be someone else's problem if I release them. I have not reset my trap, as my dad tells me the ants will get my marshmallows before the coons do... I have super fortified my coop.... NOTHING is getting in unless it opens the latch (5 feet off the ground) and goes through the door (which has a spring on it to hold it closed).
