I just got my first egg this morning from one of my RIR pullets at 18 weeks! Since them I've been feeding them a grower/starter mix with amprolium in it, along with whatever they find in the yard, BOSS, and the occasional treat of eggs or fruit. They really only eat their food in the morning and at dusk. Should I switch all 5 of them to the 16% layer now? My 2 other RIRs are doing the egg squat.

Yep, that's a good idea. Exactly what I did. I also provide some crushed oyster shell in a separate dish or bin for them so they get some extra calcium.

Congrats on the first egg!!! Can you tell me what the egg squat is???

Sometimes when I reach for one of them they'll spread out their wings and quickly sit on the ground. It only lasts a second or two for me but it's noticeable. I hear it starts soon before laying.
