I Found out that Black Buk is an Australorp! Just have to work out Lady Grey - she hold herself the same way but is grey - is that sometimes called blue? how do you differentiate?
Also today mama duck was pecking and attacking her babies so I took it that she needed time out from them. they are living in what was once a rabbit hutch and chickens found it comfy enough, but after that I realised it's not high enough for a medium breed duck. She has raised 2 broods before I got her... Is it likely to be ok as long as I give her a daily break from the cramped with babies situation? I would be gutted to loose any more than the two that didn't survive the hatching process. I was hoping to keep the ducklings in there with her for 3 weeks or until they are a third of parents size so they/or parents can fight off predators... Here that would be cats, rats and the general area sometimes has a native hawk. Is that realistic or likely to be fatal for them considering the mums aggression? We are home a lot but not always! (Do not pardon my kiwi spelling- it's fully correct for here in NZ.)
