so someone made a barter with me, and i ended up with three feathered out baby pekins... of different colours. now , once again, i have too many chickens. i know i know its like sox. u can never have too many, but really, my neighbhors and the kibbutz will give me problems soon.
so we have eaten the shnitzel (meatie) chickens, and i traded out two red screechy hens for two bantam pekins (bantam cochin?) hens, red and rusty coloured, but not people friendly, as raised in large airy coop but no real human socializing... they lay on and off small cute eggs and get along really well with my leghorns who are only here for their eggs.
and suddenly i am given thsese three. they are indoors at the moment with our baby chicks from our hatch out; and frankly, i can socialize them, but then i feel bad if i sell or trade the two older ones, and these are just babies so i cant even put them in the coop as they will escape... feeling guilty. chances are, i can find good homes for the two older ones, or give them away (need money prefer to sell), but would like to make sure the babies are hens. the owner wastn sure. one has a bit of comb already, but not sure if their ages are the same... i will try to load pics soon...
can a pekin be a house chicken? i mean, i never considered having one, but actually hubby kind of said the house was empty (kids in army , with boyfriend, busy with own life) and he doesn have much problem with animals in the house... although diapers are a little wierd... question is, could a pekin do ok in the house? they seem flightly, the flew up around their chickbrood room and they manage with the dogs qute well (poor foofoo got snipped ont he nose so he watches and whines but doesnt try to clean them anymore)...
our house smells vaguely like a chicken coop and we also hatched out two ducklings, both a bit spraddle legged... we are bit over extended with animals in the hosue at the moment...
