Gower's Feed Eastern Panhandle ChIcKeNsToCk Sat. July 9th Ranson, WV

Erin- just wondering if you knew the Freedom's Run is scheduled for Oct 1st. I'm pretty sure they shut down the road from Shepherd stadium to Canal Rd at the start. I guess it remains closed until all runners are across the bridge and onto Canal Rd. The marathoners will also be running out to Antietam and then back thru Town and over the bridge to Shepherdstown. Nothing more than a headsup required for that but the bridge/rd closing might cause backups right at the swap start time, as it looks like they will have starts staggered from 820 -840.....no idea how early they will shut it down.

Thanks. I contacted the race committee director about that. It looks as though they are heading back through Shepherdstown at the end of the race so it shouldn't affect people coming but maybe leaving... may have to make a sign to post as folks leave.

You know I don't want anyone to feel like Im trying to take the swaps over here to MD. We have a good thing going in WV and I will always support and attend those events as I have every one since the first. I've worked very hard as has many of you to make them successful. I really enjoy doing the promoting and even scored a job because of it due to the great turnout at my farm swap. I just think that many of our buyers do come from the Wash/Balt. area and they in particular liked the farm swap.. liked to get out in the country and spend the day with the kids, etc. I thought having three swaps in WV was kind of pushing it last year. We saw a good turnout in the summer for Gower's but not so good that fall at TSC. Spreading things out a bit is healthy and attracts different people ... people from WV might not want to travel to MD and people from DC/Balt. might not want to travel to WV. This way we have a good radius of places to hold swaps without burning out one particular area.

The guys at Two Rivers Treads are my buds!! He didn't mention shutting the bridge down at the start? It's the 3 shorter races that start at SU, the marathon starts in HF and ends at SU. Anyway, just don't want a bunch of disgruntled customers fuming 'cuz they sat in traffic!!

I'm just a browser so I know my opinion doesn't count for much but I really like Gower's....I like supporting the smaller businesses rather than TSC and Linda is an inhouse tester which seems convenient. Would she be willing to talk to the building owner about using the big grassy area out front? It's bigger, safer and provides alot more visibility from the road.

I've asked her that and she says that the feed store is rented not owned and that the grassy area is not in their contract. Maybe if we pushed a bit and noted our concern, we could get the business owner to get with the land owner and make it happen. I really like Gower's and Linda too.. Do you know that that Gower's is the ONLY feed store that let us advertise our events even when at another venue other than Gower's. TSC stuck our flyer by the bathroom door and Southern States outright said NO... just would like to put that all out there as well. They are nice people and her being a tester is something we all need to keep in mind because Im not sure how many times Jonathon will be permitted to come on up here and test in future years. Funds aren't what they used to be.

Erin I don't think anyone is saying your trying to take swaps away.
We are just putting out what we hear so everyone can work it around in our heads and everyone can come together and work it out to make it work smoother and better for everyone. If we all keep our mouths shut and our ears to the feed back we get from Buyers and such we will start loosing them. Better that we can say hey I have some People say this now how can we work all this into next year to make the swaps better. There was a greet turn out for our first swap at your place .
I have been running this over in my head and so far this is what I have put together.
If you like it great if not fine at least it is a start.
April- ts martinsburg
June - Erin's
Aug- ts martnsburg or charlestown if open ( don't care)
Oct- Erins
If y'all wanted to a swap at gowers that's fine.
I to would rather help out the small stores. If there was more room it would be great.
It could be one that we do as a limited space swap. Maybe a small fee to help pay for ads for the bigger ones.
There are some of us that are on a smaller scale for sales and that would be a great place for just them to go and set up and not have to compete against the ones that have larger amounts to sale.
That would give us time to get restocked/ hatch and build the chicks back up for the swaps and be fair to everyone.
Also let the breeders that show be able to do what they need to do too.
Like I said this is just being put out there to try to help out
Bits and pieces can be used or none. Just trying to help out.
Erin you have done a great job and we really are thankful for what you do as well as everyone that helps.
By the way what bird did you want picked up at the show ?
Large crate or small?

I know! I know! And the answer is: SMALL

You know...we are going to have to determine who shows what in order to be able to pack the truck...I will email you regarding this.

Please register with the MSPFA website http://mdpoultryfanciers.webs.com/ We're doing a Mid-Atlantic Breeders Directory as well. Once you create your member profile, email me a pic of one of your birds, a farm logo, etc. and a list of what breeds of poultry you raise as well as your contact info and I'll add you.

I'll start a new thread about the upcoming swaps.
