Grain bin converted to chicken house?

Anyone ever try converting a "corrugated" steel grain bin into a chicken house? I have 2 grain bins lying on their sides in my (what's supposed to be) arena barn. 1) they're in my way, 2) I need a chicken house. Any suggestions? I was thinking maybe use the top parts of the grain bin (it's basically a cylindrical corrugated metal bldg w/a roof on it) to make the chicken house. Whatcha think????

In the summer, it will HOT in there. In winter it will be COLD. If you decide to use it, have plenty of ventillation in summer and insulate it like it had electric heat........

that's what I was thinking. oh well, i was hoping to find a use for these doggoned grain bins that are lying in the middle of my indoor arena (with several other "might need that sometime..." pieces of "stuff"). now I'm thinking, "scrap metal" penny-a-pound salvage. thanks!

My friend used one with the aluminum top and wire about 3 feet up right? is that what you are talking about?? it worked really well and he had the coop attached to that BUT he had the wire mesh from bottom to the top (bottom of the aluminum top) and had chicken wire only about 2 feet up, he should have put chicken wire on the entire wire mesh and then buried some, he didn't and lost his chickens. I was looking at his yesterday and with the 8x8 or maybe even a 10x10 coop attached was a really nice chicken "run" -not a coop and if he would have put the chicken wire all the way up the mesh and buried some, he would not have lost his chickens. I would love to take his whole set up as he is not currently using it now that he lost his chickens but it would be huge to move and him and my hubby are in trucking LOL!!

Again, the top of the grain bin with wire mesh about 3 feet or more under the aluminum roof is great as a "run" but not a coop. Good luck let me know if you need, I'd be happy to send pic's over of his set up.

I have a friend that turned one into a bathroom out on his country play property. I don't notice the heat in the summer (it is in the trees so it is shaded) but in the winter it does get cold. I think they have water runing to it all year and haven't had pipes freeze. So maybe it was just the baring of my hiney.

I have seen a couple of ppl using them to house peacocks around Wi. I have access to a couple on a friends property and have been considering removing them for him so I can use them to house something as well.
I agree it would need big time insulation for the winter here.
