Grainy eggshell?

Has anyone seen this grainy looking substance on eggshells. Not sure if its some kind of parasite or just residue. Found it on one of my birds 1st egg of the season today. It almost looks and feels like grains of sand.

This is probably calcium deposits. My chickens occasionally get them on the eggs.

It isn't a problem unless it happens all the time, IMO. I think if they just eat a little too much calcium that day it can happen. You can try doing a search for calcium deposits here on BYC to see if anything pops up.

Have never seen that on an egg before...looks like dried poopy but it was laid and collected today.....strange. Calcium huh?? Live and learn, thanks for sharing!
