Cocci? Worms?
Found this poo this morning. 8 week old chicks, all active and with good appetites. Not sure about cocci (spelling?) vac. They are on non-medicated feed.

Is this shed lining or blood? Is that a round worm? Thanks for your help.

This is not worms,i would treat for Coccidiosis. Chickens do shed intestinal lining, but i have never seen this much in any of my chickens. Cocci is a parasitic infection of the intestinal tract, very common for chicks/older chickens to have an overload. Some symptoms are runny/watery poop(may or may not contain blood, depends on which of the 9 strains it is)fluffed feathers, lethargic, weight loss, not eating/drinking properly. Cocci is spread by droppings which get into feed/water via droppings. Purchase Corid(amprolium)dose for Corid 20% powder is 1/2 tsp per gallon of water, dose for Corid 9.6% liquid is 2 tsp per gallon of water. Treat ALL chicks for 5 days,do not give vitamins during treatment(interferes with medication)give vitamins after treatment is complete. Treating for Cocci, will not harm chicks, but not treating(if they have cocci)may result in deaths.

Thank you!!!

While waiting for a response I ran out and bought some of the 20% powder thinking I'd rather be safe than sorry. Plus, it'll be easier to treat them while they are still drinking on their own.
