Can I throw my grass clippings from the mower into the chicken run for food and scratching around in? Will it hurt them since it has been thru the mower? Is this a stupid question?

Thanks

That's what I do,

haven't had a problem and they love it.

Adam, I'm gonna confess since it's you, I do that too. BUT, I read on here not long ago that it causes impacted crops because when the chickens eat grass, they just eat the little tips off the ends and that's not a problem for them. Now I just feed the clippings to the sheep.

When chickens peck around and eat grass naturally they tear off bits to eat. When you throw an entire bag of clippings to them they pick up a blade and swallow it. eating long blades can cause empacted craws. If you really want to feed them the cuttings you should mow often so you only have small bits, or install a mulching blade on your mower it cutts the grass several times before it's sucked into the bag making small pieces.

This is not suggested for small herbivorous pets like guinea pigs or rabbits or for livestock due to the pollution, grease, and oil from the mower. I don't know whether that impacts chickens.
