Grass fed - no corn?

mine also free-range and eat grass and bugs all day (and larvae out of pastured heifer poop) -- sounds gross, but it's nourishing.

I'm really interested in alternative feeds for chickens too so I hope people will continue to post as they try it out. My understanding is that the chicken's original diet in the wild was seeds, bugs and greens. It sounds pretty good to have chickens eating the things that you don't want in your yard and garden (weeds and bugs) and paying less for their food as a result. Definitely a win-win situation for everyone except the makers of chicken feed.

* There's active debate about whether soybeans ARE 'good' for chickens or not good-- but, I don't think there's any question that soybeans ABSOLUTELY MUST be roasted or otherwise cooked before feeding.

If they are really short, it is ok for them to scratch around and pick though. Too long of pieces often lead to impacted crops... not something you want.
