Today was a great day! Walked in the coop this morning before we went to church and found our "first egg" setting right inside the coop door on the floor. Our pullets are only 17 weeks old as of yesterday so we really weren't expecting any eggs this early. The nest boxes we build are still in the shop and we had planned on mounting them next weekend, but it looks like we will be doing it tomorrow on Labor Day. Also, only about 3 of my girls have been roosting on the roost during the night. The rest of them have been piling up on top of each other in one corner of the coop. Last night I went out after dark and set each individual bird on the roost and then went out and checked on them about an hour later, they were still all there! Tonight after they had all gone in the coop for the night, I gave them about an hour and went out to peek in the door. All 20 of them were on the roost and looked to be sound asleep. It has truely been a great day all the way around!!!!!
