Great Horned Owl

Did you take that picture? Is really noce!

They do have babies around this time (at least in Texas). This time last year my dad found a great horned owlet on the ground. The nest was way up high in a pine, so he couldn’t return it, plus mama was mad. So he built a makeshift nest in the tree next to it, and sure enough mama came and fed the baby until it was big enough to fly. In fact, the first night the owlet slept in a bucket in the back of my dads truck (quite a ways from the nest) and there was part of a dead bird in the bucket the next morning! Many evenings we would sit in the backyard and watch the parents hunt. It was such a neat experience. They start hunting right before dark.

Here he is the day my dad found him and then the last time I saw him before he flew out of his little nest box.

I can’t hate owls. They are good mamas and just magnificent to watch!
