I am so glad I found this site! I have been reading everything I can to get ready for my first chickens. The coop is just in planning stage and painting some of the wood in garage now until we can get outside and cement the corner posts in. I am going to get Australorps probably from Meyer unless our local Tractor Supply will have that breed. I almost ordered tonight but stopped myself lol. Didn't know about poop boards, predator proofing or fodder growing until I came here. I know I'll find so much more so thanks again. :) Liz

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children, and now my granddaughter, made lap pets of them), and the best layers of the standard, brown egg laying breeds. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your Australorps.
