AWESOME news guys! Up until now, I had been getting away with having two females and only one male (Cortunix) because winter slowed down the sex drive of the male, and I was sooooo nervous about the spring. But I found two females only a half hour away! Any tips for traveling with birds in tow? I’ve usually gotten mine in overnight mail! Also, I usually just dump new birds in and give them time to sort each other out. No big issues with that yet, but is there a better way?
:wee

I don't know about quail, but generally with transport of ducks or chickens you have them in a dog crate with bedding, and some sort of food or water that isn't easy to have spill. Usually with a towel or blanket over the majority of the dog crate, so that it isn't so bright and alarming.

My quail are generally hostile to newcomers, but only some of them. Depends on the birds! Even the hostile ones will calm down after a week or so in my experience but it might come at the cost of some feathers and blood, and I’ve heard they can kill each other surprisingly easily. To be safe many people suggest keeping them in neighboring pens or with a divider so that they can get accustomed to each other. Two feeders and two waterers will ensure they don’t get protective over resources.
For transporting them if it’s only an hour round trip, a pet carrier and a blanket is good, but even a closed cardboard box will make them sleepy and less likely to stress.

Yup, my scissor beak started attacking the poor kids. I separated her from the rest because she’s the only violent one to them-they calmed down almost immediately! Going to try and re introduce her later.

Haha, I’ve got a bad-tempered crossbeak too. She not only gets grumpy at mealtimes, she attacks my hands if they’re too close. Separating for a few days did stop her pecking new birds though.
