Mayberry (really!)
If you cant be a good example then you should at least be a dire warning:
So here's my warning, chicken wire keeps chicken in, it does not keep varmits out!!

Does that look like a bronze poult or a Narraganset to you? hmmmm...

I've gotta get an understandin on some terminology here...

Here's simple definitions that I have in my feeble brain ...

Run = Fenced in area for chickens to "get outside" in and is sometimes has the top covered.

House = Well, the house <duh> that is predator-proofed, houses the roosts and nestboxes and is closed up at night.

Coop = Same thing as a house.

Wikipedia basically agrees with me, not that Wikipedia is an end-all for information.... Chicken Coop

Now, my problem with using hardware cloth for the run is that I'm planning on a run of 3500-4000 square feet and hw cloth would be prohibitive...the 2x4 welded wire is going to hurt my feelings enough. I agree though with using hardware cloth to cover openings of the coop/house....and for enclosing small runs.

But, getting back to the house, coop, run definitions...have I got them right?

The reason I ask is that I often see the terms used loosely and somewhat confusingly at times.

Am I being to picky?

I guess in my mind a coop is smaller than a house. (?)

Wire-wise I think you'll be ok, because by the time they are going out into their run, they will be too big for snakes like this. These guys are 2 weeks old and still in a brooder. The brooder area I raised my chickens in is clearly a no-go for turkeys. This snake just wandered in, wandered up, wandered through and caused total pandemonium. What did I notice? "Hmmm, thats funny, there's a turkey poult out on the patio looking confused... what is it doing THERE?"

It took HOURS to catch them all where they had fled the snake in a panic. Total prison break. It was like looking for easter eggs. There was one in the boxwoods, two under the azaleas, one hiding in the downspout... And there was a mocking bird doing the "peep peep PEEP" and throwing us off totally as we hunted.
