This year I had a green house built on the deck...nothing fancy is just thick polly, with the dream of one day, finding some cheaper lexan...I did...my run of things that are now mostly planted....
I am wondering...if it is safe to start planting more...I sort of was thinking no...but now am wondering ...
I am zone 5 Last Year we Had TOONNNSS of snow...what sort of things would do ok in a greenhouse as it probably would be getting colder if I plant now and they are ripinging???

Plants only need a few things to grow or keep growing.

Good soil and watering
Sun light or growing light
The right temperature

If you can provide these in your green house then you can grow anything anywhere. But do remember that if you plant things that need pollinating (IE tomatoes) then you will likely have to do it yourself during the winter since most bees and things are not out. I've used a small paint brush on mine that I grew inside (experiment) and it worked great.

Hi

I too am in Zone 5, in Prince Edward Island, Canada. I have an unheated 8 x 8 greenhouse (built it myself last year out of old windows), with a Suntuff roof. Last fall I extended the growing season until late October (I didn't really have much stuff growing in it because I just finished building it in the summer.) My biggest problem this summer has been to keep it well ventilated so the place doesn't overheat!

Right now I have melons, tomatoes, late beans, a squash, peppers, and even a pineapple top growing. I have been growing mesculin(lettuces) mix since the spring in two small plastic trays. It has been cut (and eatern) 5 times already and still growing well. I plan to plant a couple more trays of mesculin mix soon, and expect that I won't need to purchase lettuces until November. Spinach and other greens would grow well too. I like growing stuff in moveable trays, That way I can just harvest beside my kitchen sink and return the growing tray to the greenhouse.

Good luck!

very helpfull...I have some kale and celantro seed...i will start planting...thanks 4 the advice...and maybe try some romoane...Darklingstorm
it is the temperature i would mostly be concerned with..havent looked into lighting or heat...but i could easily run a cord out, so wouldn't be that much out of the question good to know the paint brush was sucessfull...I have thought of getting bee's and am now leaning towards it even more because i think there is much that dosent get potinated..
wow I will have to look for mesculin that sound like fantastic growth...

"Mesclun"--look for that. In France, mesclun is a specific mixture, in the US it includes not just lettuces and endive, etc, but often includes kale and beet greens. If you are sowing a lot, you might also consider sowing your own mixture. Since you are sowing them a little closer together and harvesting them as tender "baby" greens, this is a perfect crop for a greenhouse.
