Making dinner tonight at my folks house, i grabbed 4 eggs, my duck eggs I give them, and one of them had a nasty green spot on the yolk about the size of a kidney bean. Of course my mother had to be looking, she probably wont ever use one again. In any event i tossed those 4 and cracked 4 fresh which all seemed fine. Research shows they are meat spots and probably started as blood spots? Read some threads here and elsewhere that seem up in the air about what to do, i dont sell my eggs, still dont care to have gross stuff oozing out of the eggs, and more importantly, what does it mean for my birds? Just an anomaly? One getting sick? Any input would be appreciated.

What feed are they on? How old were the eggs? Were they washed? Refrigerated? Certain ingredients in feeds can cause green in yolks along with bacteria. I've also heard of leftover tissue from the eggs making process causing the green spots, but I have yet to find any research to back that up.

Wish i had gotten a picture , just didn’t think of it, eggs un washed, un refrigerated and less than 1 week old, they are on Nutrina all flock 18%. Have calcium free choice. Haven’t found another one either.
