I was looking through the designs posted here and saw a coop with a "green roof" that had like a sedum garden on the top. Does this really keep the coop cooler and does it cause rot? Thanks.

Green roofs have waterproofing membranes and root barrier membranes (to keep roots from poking the waterproofing membrane) below the soil. If your roof is big enough, yes it can help w heating and cooling, as well as stormwater runoff. I'm thinking most coop roofs are tiny and not worth the trouble, but it could also be considered aesthetic.

Not too long ago I found plans for building a bird feeder with a green roof - I really want to try that! Hadn't thought about the coop....
