Hatcheries wash their eggs before they incubate but then again they are hatching thousands of eggs at a time and bacteria could cause a great deal of trouble and loss of investment.

Apples and oranges. Hatcheries fumigate, sterilize, and take biosecurity much more seriously than we generally do. Using one small part of a process without using the entire process can be pretty risky.
