I am about to have chickens. I bought chicks, but a friend is raising them till they are ready for the coop. I go and visit them and learn about taking care of them and ask questions. I am currently reading a book and watching all the YouTube videos I can find on chickens, coops etc. I am going to be raising chicken so that my family does not starve when society collapses.

I got 4 chicks, which a week later I can tell them apart, 2 Dark Bahamas (One big and one small fast one) and 2 Ameraucanas (One Tawny and one darker). My family thinks I am crazy, because I seem to have outlandish ideas. Like raising chickens. For example, When we got a puppy when the kids were small, I got two puppies so they would each have one. Later, I adopted a rescued Rottweiler with one eye, because I didn't think anyone would want him. He loved me a lot. Rottys do a kind of purr when they are happy. They look like they are angry and growling at you but they are not. I would say "He's smiling." They would say, "He's about to kill you.", But he never did. I currently have a blue nosed pitty named, BLUE. Not very original but it fits her. She's Crazy.

The chickens will be in a run, similar to a Carolina Coops American Coop, which my husband will build. He teaches woodworking at a local high school, so I have my own tradesman at my disposal.

I work full time, I have a side business. I live in Mechanicsville, VA. I am married, I have 3 adult children. I am very excited to add chickens to my hobbies.
