I am sooo excited to be a new chicky mama !!!

We have 2 (5 week old) chicks, Rhode Island Red and Brown leghorn, but they looked so lonely I needed to get more ! Isn't that always how it works ? Just added 12 more (week old) chicks, I'm really excited about the 5 silver wyandottes but my husband has fell head over heals with the 2 black sexlinks.

We have always previously lived in suburban areas that are not so chicken friendly, but now that our 2 children have moved out (both joining the marine corp) we had our opportunity to move to the country in Nevada, TX (rural area just outside of Dallas) and start living like we have always wanted. We now have just under 3 acres and it has taken us a little over a year to get the house in order and are now ready to start working the land starting with the fence.

Purchased a chicken coop from a local farmer back in January and impatiently awaited for spring to arrive to get our first babies now that the weather is not sooo cold.

Our daughter just recently home on leave after returning from her first tour in Afghanistan painted the coop with a big American flag on the roof that can be seen for miles as part of her 'therapy' to unwind from her 12 months in the sandpit and to show her American Pride.

We look forward to adding more of God's creatures to our humble 'piece of paradise' ! Once we get the fence mended
