Retired military, 32 years of service, just purchased a fenced in, 2 acre home, including coop and chickens, in the beautiful state of South Carolina. Total newbie raising chickens, done plenty of research, decent coop and run, although it needs some upgrades (better ventilation and minor repairs). Supposedly had 5 free ranging Bantams, owner said they'll disappear for a while and return all bedraggled. one returned, no sign of the others, been two months now, searched the property, no dice. Heard about backyardchickens.com, from reading Raising Chickens for Dummies, and the site was recommended by my daughter, this site is awesome. My hobbies include making beer, wine and mead, smoking meat, gardening and landscaping. My current chicken related projects is building a brooder, possibly upgrading nesting boxes, and I'll be acquiring 10, ISA Brown chicks soon. Thanks for allowing me to join and happy to part of the community. Cheers!

Thank you sincerely for your time in service. Sounds like the previous owner didn't care that much about his birds. Bantams are just big enough for a predator snack - I would imagine that's where they disappeared. :(
