Hi there! Julia from Arkansas here! I've got a small flock of 6 chickens right now, looking to expand to more when I figure out what I'm doing. I've got three of each Rhode Island Reds and Buff Orpingtons. Glad to be here!

Hi Julia,

Are you wanting to try some other breeds? It's always interesting to see how they vary in temperament and looks.

You could ask the members in your state thread if they recommend specific breeds or where local breeders are:

If you have questions, always feel free to ask!

Howdy Julia. Welcome to BYC. Hope you like this site. There are a lot of tips and people with great info. I've been around chickens and farm/ranch my whole life and have already learned a few things in the few days I've been on here.

Hi Julia! Welcome!

Nice breeds you have. As you decide to add to your flock, If you'll look to the top of the page and click where it says breeds, BYC gas a great search and sort breed feature. Scroll down on the left, you can narrow search by egg , size climate tolerance and learn about so many breeds. Best of luck to you!

What a great resource! Thank you. I definitely want to try out different breeds. My goal is a "colorful" flock. I worry about combing hens though. I know the bringing new girls in can be troublesome sometimes. I'll check into the local thread though. THANKS!
