Afternoon. My wife is the one that guided me to this site, and I have been happily browsing away for several days now. Finally decided to join in on the fun.

Now, had you told me a few months ago that I'd have chickens, I'd have laughed at you. Had you gone on to further tell me I'd become quite attached to them once I had them, I'd have suggested therapy for you. Well....again, I blame my wife for this and I am sure she will show up at some point to post.... we are the proud owners of three of these wonderful feathered bundles of wonder. One buff Orpington, one light-coloured Brahma, and one Easter Egger. Pot Pie, Kiev, and Cordon Bleu, respectively. They are about a month old...the EE is a bit younger. Until last night we also had two grey/black Silkies, but we lost both of them in the same day. We will once again be up to five by the weekend.

I have never built a coop before, but I have a strong background in guerilla theatre set construction (building an entire set out of scrap lumber kind of thing), so I figured it would be an easy deal. Heh, was I mistaken! One of the first things that attracted me to this site was all the wonderful advice, photos, and plans for all types of chicken coops/runs. Let me take a moment to thank every one of you that posted on that subject....you saved my sanity! I'm still plugging away at the coop, but I'll try to post photos at some point.

As this is already running long, I'll cut it short by saying I am stunned to find myself the 'father' of chickens, but quite happy to have joined the ranks of everyone here!

-EDIT-
Almost forgot to post our girls! Not the greatest of photos, but I'll post more when I get them.
Left to right....Cordon Bleu (EE), Kiev (Brahma), and Pot Pie (Orpington)
