Same! I love mixing breeds.Same. It seems incredibly boring to me to raise only specific breeds, so you already know exactly what the descendents will look like for the next 100 years. I've already had countless surprises with my mixed flock
I love crests and feathered feet! If you can keep your birds cool enough it shouldn’t be that much of a problem. Just make sure they always have water and some shade.Absolutely! I can't wait for those surprises! I'm hoping around this time next year I'll have some young ladies with fresh speckling genes ready for my handsome and friendly splashy roo, Momo.
Florida is so dang hot. If it wasn't, I'd love to have a second breeding project called Hats and Boots with lots of crests and feathered feet but that might not be very kind to the birds.
Once we get our 4.15 enclosures built (It was a very complicated fowl formula that involved pulets, cockerels, lurkies, peas, and pi) I may revisit the idea. Our mix already has boot genes from marans and hat genes from CCL.Same! I love mixing breeds.
