Hi everyone, I'm new to this sight and to owning 5 beautiful baby rhode island reds

I look forward and appreciate all the knowledge and learning from this wonderful sight. I feel blessed that this is out here for everyone. I moved from Massachusetts 3 yrs ago with my husband, we bought a modest house here in Maine with lots of land and have been talking for a while about starting a hobby farm, with the economy not doing so great I decided what better time to become more self sufficient?? I started researching chickens and the breeds and read nothing but great things from rhode island reds so one day while my hubby was at work i decided to call around and see what i could get. I ended up ordering 6 RIR from agway and the hatchery is in vermont ( i loved that it was in new England) so i went for it. they came to us 4 days ago but sadly after the first day one little gal wasn't doing so well, she became lethargic and couldn't hold her head up, she was very unstable on her feet. I gave her some honey and we layed her back down but against all our efforts she passed during the night.

However the other 5 seem to be doing great, I woke up this morning to find them chasing each other around with a piece of cardboard so I'm praying that was just an isolated incident and praying that i won't lose anymore of my ladies. I am 29 and my husband is 34, we look forward to this new adventure in our life together, now that I've chatted everyone's ears off...LOL I'll start browsing the forums.
