Hi All, new to the forum and was recommended here by a friend who has had chickens for a few years.
We have considered chickens for a few years, but never jumped on the wagon till recent, as we started our veggie garden and planning to be hunkered down for obvious reasons. I finally convinced the spouse to make the hop and we decided on chickens ready to lay instead of chicks at the moment. Once I got the okay, I got my pencil down for a few designs thoughts and started building a few days ago.
Last Sunday we purchased 6 pullets (RI Reds), 2 are currently egg layers at about 7 months and the remaining a little younger at 4 months. I had been working on a project to extend my shed to an additional 6x12 and temporarily fenced them in there while I worked on the coop and run in the coming weeks. I'm already more than half way done with the coop, which is 5x6, with a run about 6x8. I'm flexible with the run size, which is on slightly sloped section of my property, but not planning to change the footprint of the coop for now. I was too busy with work and getting started, otherwise would have posted here earlier for guidance. Though I'm here now, and looking forward to learning and being entertained by this community.
I'll start a new thread for my newbie chicken questions.
