(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We actually inherited 2 chickens when we purchased a home a little more than a year ago. They asked if we wanted to keep them and we said, “of course!” They were even included in the disclosures lol

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Welll.... 1 now Bc our favorite one died over Labor Day week

(3) What breeds do you have?

the one that passed was a buff Orpington and the other one, I’m not sure what she is, but she looks similar but black and has an extra back talon

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

They are full of personality! The eggs are secondary to their companionship

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Gardening, working out, watching A’s baseball

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

We have a 15yo cat named Calvin!

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

Sorry to hear about your bird who passed. When you’re ready to get your other hen a new friend, maybe head over to the CA state thread and see if anybody is hen-heavy and looking to regime somebody. Or maybe somebody can hatch you some chicks locally.
