Hey y'all,
I just recently joined this site even though I've been stalking the threads for months.

I am new chicken owner. Never really owned chickens till last year when I first got one of my chicks in the pet store at the mall. The rest is history and I bought a whole flock at my local Tractor Supply Store. However, this year I recently got more chicks since most of my original flock were given away or eaten. I own two hens from the old flock, an Australorp and a Cornish X. Both hens are doing very well and are laying a lot of eggs on a daily basis, especially the Australorp. Now my new flock consists of 4-5 week old Silkies, Barred Rocks, and Ameraucanas.

I can't wait for my chicks to grow up, and start laying colorful eggs.

Anyone who raises chickens in a city area?

Hello and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. I'm sure that there are lots of members that raise chickens in urban areas - some where its legal, some where its not.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you

All the best

Greetings from Kansas, Lavylu, and :welcome! Great to have you aboard. As CTKen stated, there are a lot of city chicken keepers on BYC - both in cities where it's allowed, but covertly as well. ;). Best wishes to you and your poultry pursuits! :)

so glad you have joined us.

Many members have flocks in Urban or Suburban locations. Some even have them in apartment dwelling and surprisingly many have House Hens :)

My home is more of a woodsy suburban neighborhood - I do have 2 acres, but my coop/ run could easily be duplicated in a smaller homesite.

Do you have special concerns about your situation or acreage?

Gee, Ive never heard of a Pet Store selling baby chicks:)
