What a great site this is! I will be learning so much here! I work at a preschool and have summers off, so I finally decided to fulfill my dream and start a flock of my own. I have 4 Barred Plymouth Rocks, 6 White Plymouth Rocks, and 6 Brown Leghorns. They were only 3 days old when I took over as their momma and I couldn't be any happier in that role! They are just shy of 2 months old now and bring a smile to my face every day. Nothing better than going out to their run and just sitting there watching their antics. (Don't tell my cats, but I think they are better companions...shhhhhhhh) At least the chickens get excited when I call their names and don't act all aloof. lol I'm excited to be here and read what people post and learn from them.

Welcome to BYC and the wonderful world of chickens!

Chickens make wonderful pets and hobbies. I agree, my house cat tend to turn his nose up at me and order me around, my chickens all come running for a treat and follow me around. They are beautiful and all individuals in their personalities.

Feel free to ask any questions or just to chat about your chickens! Everyone here loves talking about poultry.

Best of luck!

Welcome to Backyard chickens, so nice to have your join the flock. At some point you may want to check out your state thread and discover any local chicken folks to befriend. BYC has some very kind and dedicated members, and I'm sure you are one of them.

Here's a pic of one of them with my granddaughter. She loves to go visit them wearing her very favorite "chicken shoes" They have sparkles and the girls LOVE them.

Gita, love the calico cat in your photo.

Thanks! Her name is Scardy Cat (yeah, little kids did help name her

). She's around 7 years old and really sweet. She's the mother of the other cat in the photo (Tabby. Kids helped name her as well). They call her coloration patched tabby and white, which is a type of calico coloration.

If you haven't noticed, I like talking about my cats.
