Good afternoon all,

Having recently had the Heartbreak of our 2 lovely chickens being taken by foxes, we've incubated and hatched a new flock of rambunctious Polish and Sulmtaler bantams.

This is Bok and Frenzy. They were becoming rather tame, and had started to enjoy listening to music in the kitchen whilst we cooked.
They are sorely missed.....

From 6 eggs we managed to hatch 3 of 6 Polish which have turned into healthy yet boisterous teenagers, that are probably ready for moving outside (to a foxproof coop obviously).

5 1/2 weeks old, from left to right we have Casserole, Soup, and Roast. Still not sure of their sex, but reckon Soup could be a rooster. They all seem to get on well, and enjoy perching, preening, and sleeping on shoulders.

5 very sleepy young birds.....

From 6 eggs we miraculously also had 5 Sulmtaler chicks hatch, but have held off on naming any of them, at least until we know how many hens or roosters we have. Our understanding is that we'll be able to sex the new children far sooner, and much more easily than the Polish.....

We look forward to sharing more pics and stories as they all grow up, and of seeing how other families are progressing within the community here on Backyard Chickens.

Hi J & K, welcome to BYC!

What a wonderful intro to your flock. Love the photos (and that fistful of chicks is so cute). I'm very sorry you lost some girls to a fox, that's always hard to lose any of them. Chickens sure have a way of finding a place in your heart, don't they.

The color of your Polish is pretty and I'm looking forward to seeing how your Sulmtaler grow up, that's a breed I'm not very familiar with.

It's very nice to have you here, please make yourself at home.

Whilst our opinion of foxes dramatically dropped, we can't in truth be too angry Ewe Mama. It's cub season, so Ma and Pa fox were just doing what they needed to, just frustrating that it was Bok and Frenzy that got nabbed. We shan't be so naive again however, and will ensure that the new children rest easy in the chicken equivalent of Fort Knox once they move outdoors.

You are indeed correct NorthFLChick, they certainly know how to worm their way into your heart with all of their oddities and idiosyncrasies. For example, I never would have thought a chicken would be so utterly terrified of Broccoli.....
