Good Morning BYC!!!
I am a newbie to the BYC chicken life, thanks to new, chicken friendly ordinances just recently passed in my city. My son, his fiance and I have spent the past several weekends working on building our coop, and after struggling with rainy, snowy weather, I am happy to say it is 99% finished! Just a bit more finish work, mostly trim and door handles, and it will be complete! YEA!!!!!
We got our baby chicks yesterday and have them safely in our homemade brooder. We chose 2 Australorp's, 2 Barred Rock's and 2 Plymouth Rocks, all pullets. The Plymouth Rocks are about 2 weeks old and the others are about 1 week old. They seem content in their new home and have mesmerized our cats. (Don't worry, their brooder is cat proof!)
I also love to garden and will be building more raised beds this year. We currently have two 4 x 8 beds and one 4 x 4 bed. We plan on making three or four more 4 x 8 beds in the next few weeks. We had quite a bountiful garden last year and shared often with all of our co-workers.
I am looking forward to watching our adorable little fluff balls grow and becoming a member of the group!
