Hello,

I'm BaySideBex and happy to become part of the community! I've been visiting this spot for awhile now and decided to create an account to ask some questions of my own.

I currently have two Ameraucana's named Brownie and Coco and they've been with us for about a year now. If I had space, I'd love to have more chickens. I'm fairly new and have found being a chicken mom has been rather therapeutic for me. My children are now in college and will be moving out soon, so this gives me something to nurture after I get home from work... besides my human family :)

I'm interested in cleaning up my yard so that my chickens have more space to roam, but I get nervous about neighborhood cats, dangerous plants they might eat and occasional big birds flying over.

I enjoy spending time with my family, crafting and hiking. Excited to be here to learn more about caring for my chickens and meet new friends!

You may want to have a covered run for your chickens, rather than free ranging or ??
That way they couldn't reach/ eat toxic plants, the cats couldn't get to them, and raptors would be kept out. If you opt for a solid material run cover it can provide some shade & protection from the elements.

Thank you for that great idea!

Welcome to BYC! I hope you find the info you are looking for. If you decide to get more chickens, showing provides a fun additive to your hobby. But it's addicting. You will find yourself wanting fifty more chickens...
I actually thought about that while my daughter was in FFA and 4-H! But just as you mentioned... I was afraid of the addiction!! So many awesome chickens out there!!

Hi and welcome to BYC - you have some great advice already so I'll just say hello!
