Welcome here Dan. 5 is a great number for starter flock. This is the best place to learn all there is to know about chickens. I've been here 3 years and learned bunches. I'm glad you joined we have some great articles here. Up in brown bar above, just touch the dog eared page icon. 3rd one in .

Welcome. What a great goal you have to make your chickens happy. More secure space (1/2 inch hardware cloth top, sides and apron), in the coop and run solve so many issues as well as making your chickens and you more happy.
