My name is Shelley - I live in South Central Oklahoma. Saw this website on eHow - was searching about building a coop. We plan to start raising chickens within the next year?? I am truly a beginner - only know I'd like some chickens for the fresh eggs and to eat all the grasshoppers that are destroying my flower gardens.

Will probably hire someone to build coop. Can't wait to 'devour' this website! I signed up before looking around - knew it was for me!

Welcome, I love BYC. I have been gathering info for the last couple of years from here and we finally took the plunge about a month ago. We just moved our 3 week old chicks to their coop today. They loved having the freedom of the run and I saw an amazing number of "flights" now that they have room to spread their wings. We have 13 Buff Orpington Hens. Can't wait for them to grow up and lay eggs.
