I have an RIR hen acting funny. Her top comb and waddles are not a healthy red color - they are more grey looking. Her top comb is laying to one side about halfway back. I noticed her yesterday and have been checking on her several time a day. She is always off to herself and hunkered down. She is showing no interest in food or treats... I offered some alfalfa leaves and hand picked spring grass to her with no interest.

Any suggestions as to what this is and if there is a treatment I can do?

Isolate her from the others.
Perhaps provide some vitamins in her water.
Check her for egg issues such as egg bound? Search here on BYC for egg bound to get more details.

But defiantely isolate her so that you can keep and eye on her and if she is sick, she may pass it to the others.

check the crop

describe the droppings..color and consistency

what all do you feed?
is she thin?

when did she last lay?
can she walk? limp?

does the comb and wattles appear dusty?
are they hot or cold?

any wheezing?
any mucus or drainage from nostrils or eyes?
labored breathing?

ever been wormed?

how long has been this way?

how old is she?

any meds on hand?

this hen is very sick.

for now, until we have more info..try and get some Poy-vi-sol liquid baby vitamins, Enfamil brand if possible, no iron..3 drops on beak once a day for a week, then taper off for another week.

I have a thread about my injured 13 week old aracauna, could the vitamin drops be helpful to her as well?

BroncoHollow: Don't mean to hijack your thread...I hope you figure out what's wrong with your hen.
