GRIT substitues ?

Grit from TSC is rather expensive for what it is.
Is there something else that could be used instead, like coarse sand or whatever?

yes- sand could be used -or find a regular feed store where you can get grit by the pound .Pigeon grit is often recommended because it has minerals added.(its the red kind)
