i just gave my 2 1/2 weekers egg, do t hey need grit? I have grit that is mana pro insoulbe crushed granite, but the directions say it is for 8 weeks or older, what can i use in the mean time? i heard about the parakeet grit but that has calcium in it.

Go to the feed store and look for chick grit. It's a finer version of the adult grit!

ok so they have one specially made for lil chicks at t he tractor supply store then? i will have to go there, but oh my i hope i can resist the baby chicks, lol, you are sending me on a very hard mission, lol

do you have to sift sand? do they need grit if it is only egg that they ate?

I could not find baby chick grit at TSC or my local Coop. I ended up going to Walmat in the pet dept. and bought Gravel'n Grit made by Hartz for less than 2 bucks for 30 oz. It is mostly very fine sand and some small gravel pieces. My 3 and 4 week chicks seem to like it. I have to slow down on the treats, they are spoiled but will come to me everytime I am near them, and that is exactly what I wanted. Good luck!

I thought that giving them egg would be fine without grit. I somewhere read that egg and yoghurt are the only things they can eat without having grit..... I hope that is true because I give my chicks hard boiled egg and they don't have grit

I give mine yougart, eggs and worms. The 2 bucks I paid for the grit was well worth it to see the show they put on when they have the treats. I did not want to risk it either way. They are one medicated starter feed, treats, and grit all doing wonderfully.

German Chick i thought the same thing with the egg and yogurt too, just wanted to make sure. I advoided TS,lol, and i went to walmart and they didnt have any grit ?!?!?! What the heck, so i headed over to Petsmart and got grit for canary and finches, so it is real little and i sprinkeled some in, just to be on hte safe side.
