I have a year-and-a-half old Americana hen. She stopped laying in mid July. I noticed her not feeling well 2 weeks ago. She was brought in and given extra mealworms and water. She perked up. Last week I noticed she was walking funny, so I gave her another exam. Her abdomen is severely swollen. She has almost no muscle mass at all. I don't know what she weighed in health, but she is down to 4.3 lbs. I went to Tractor Supply last week and got some penicillin. They gave me a recommendation to treat her for a week. They told me not to treat longer than a week. I have been giving her point 5mL twice a day for 7 days of Bactracillin G/300000 units per mL. She is no better. Her poop is fine, she eats well, she does not act lethargic. I am afraid I'm going to lose her. Please help!
