My daughter would freak out if she knew anyone ever had left over elk! It's by far her favorite meat, so no- our chickens have never had it! I know my ladies have gotten into the scraps left for the barn cats and gobbled up various meats with no apparent ill effects.
I forgot - I've fed them leftovers from dinner: deer, moose, dall sheep, elk, beef, caribou. All good. Was a rare treat for chicks actually because we ate it all up! Mostly I
did it with the chicks in the brooder for the first 3 weeks to make friends with them.
It was ground, cooked, and broken up into tiny pieces. And not too much at one time.
i got out some ground elk that's from 2007 for burgers on friday night and discovered that it was a little freezer burned, so i went ahead and fried it up to give to the dog (she LOVES elk) and thought i would give some to the big birds but will now also give some to the chicks in the brooder too. i have 4 or 5 pounds left in the freezer. sounds like the animals will be happy for a few weeks to come.
