Ground elk anyone?

My Orps have had both venison and grass fed beef and devoured both.

I supplement their diet in winter 3-4x a week with it when other natural protein sources are scarce.

My daughter would freak out if she knew anyone ever had left over elk! It's by far her favorite meat, so no- our chickens have never had it! I know my ladies have gotten into the scraps left for the barn cats and gobbled up various meats with no apparent ill effects.

Yes, that is how I impress new chicks. Suddenly the standoffish ones are best buddies!!!

Chickens eat meat. I've seen them wade into the shallow gravel streams here to get to salmon scraps here in Alaska.

I forgot - I've fed them leftovers from dinner: deer, moose, dall sheep, elk, beef, caribou. All good. Was a rare treat for chicks actually because we ate it all up! Mostly I
did it with the chicks in the brooder for the first 3 weeks to make friends with them.

It was ground, cooked, and broken up into tiny pieces. And not too much at one time.

perfect! thanks everyone.

i got out some ground elk that's from 2007 for burgers on friday night and discovered that it was a little freezer burned, so i went ahead and fried it up to give to the dog (she LOVES elk) and thought i would give some to the big birds but will now also give some to the chicks in the brooder too. i have 4 or 5 pounds left in the freezer. sounds like the animals will be happy for a few weeks to come.
