I want to grow free range food for my hens. It is cold and dry here, and my hens have a very large 1/4 acre fenced free range area. does anyone know of anything easy to grow in dry conditions that hens would eat?

Your location is not indicated which is important. Some natives already present may be suitable. Drought tolerant legumes would be my first choice assuming they do not prove invasive. For me, red clover, alfalfa and vetch are best. Vetch seeds can be toxic but have not proven a problem for me. Limiting grazing pressure can prevent plant death.
