Hi we are building a new coop for our flock. I would like to plant things in the run in pots and outside of the coop in planter boxes that I can feed once grown to my chickens. Is there something I can grow for them that can replace feed and not make their nutrients suffer in regards to laying eggs? I have looked into fodder, wheat grass? Is there anything that can last through the winter ? I would like to cut my feed bill down as we have a rather large flock (50+).

If you suggest something can you tell me the best way to grow it? seeds, starts and where I should keep it and how to harvest or ?

Thanks!
